In astronomy and cosmology, dark matter is a type of matter hypothesized to account for a large part of the total mass in the universe. Dark matter cannot be seen directly with telescopes; evidently it neither emits nor absorbs light or other electromagnetic radiation at any significant level.^[1] Instead, its existence and properties are inferred from its gravitational effects on visible matter, radiation, and the large scale structure of the universe. Dark matter is estimated to constitute 84% of the matter in the universe and 23% of the mass-energy.^[2]

new noises – random synthesis

With a background as art historian, Gea Brown approaches to the Djing by researching different genres of music in a continous mix between history and present. Collector of the music creations by Charlemagne Palestine, in her sets the drone music and the american minimalism of the 60’s get in dialogue with the sound of electronic and electroacoustic music of the last years. An eclectic approach which picks also from classical music, folktronica and tribalism with a recent interest for the vocal element coming from spoken word and sound poetry. Since 2010 Gea Brown has been part of the duo Alpin Folks with which she develops an audiovideo project, characterised by the combination of drone and techno music. She create sounds of performances for various artists, dancers and designers.

Studio Corte 17 – Via Genova 17, Prato

Alpi Occidentali I-IV e’ una serie di dj set in cui le sonorita’ della
musica drone e techno si fondono per raccontare quattro scalate alpine,
ricreando l’ambiente sonoro emotivo della salita verso la vetta, il
raggiungimento del culmine e una possibile discesa.
Un’esperienza della montagna in cui convivono visioni estatiche,
inquietudine, tensione, paura, eccitazione.

Dalla collaborazione tra il duo musicale Alpin Folks e il visual artist
moka_project nasce una performance in cui lo svolgersi del discorso
musicale si accompagna alla visione del paesaggio alpino, attraverso la
rielaborazione live di filmati risalenti agli anni’60, provenienti da una
collezione privata (sync film archive).
